How to deal with cracked heels

It’s so weird to get those cracked heels which are really painful and horrible to look at. There are so many reasons for a cracked heel to appear but the most common cause is the excessive drying up of the thickened skin around the heel area. Hey, but don’t worry!! Check out these simple ideas to get those smooth heels you wished you really had.

First of all, it is important to apply a good intense moisturiser on a daily basis to keep your skin adequately hydrated all day long. A big mistake that most of us make is that even though we apply all kinds of creams and lotions all over the body, we tend to ignore the feet. Never do that!! Apply a thick moisturizer like the ones with shea butter at least 2 times a day to smoothen out the hard areas of the skin.

Take a few drops of coconut oil in your palm and rub it on your heel. Let it stay for 30 minutes and then wash it off with soap and water.

After taking a shower while your feet are still wet, use a pumice stone to rub it against your feet. This is the best way to exfoliate the dead skin stuck on your feet. So do not miss this quick step at any cost.

It’s better to get your pedicure done once in a month to get a soft glowing foot with some professional touch.

Before going to bed make it a point that you apply some petroleum jelly to those cracked areas. Then wear socks to lock in the moisture. This is a simple trick to soften the skin while you sleep.

Make it a point that you dip your feet in warm water mixed with just a little amount of mild shampoo. Let it stay for 10 minutes and then wash it off with normal water.

Take a lemon and cut it into two halves. Dip the lemon into two tablespoons full of sugar. Now, scrub it over your heels for a few minutes and let it stay for some time. Wash it thoroughly and tap dry.

Once you get a cracked heel make sure you wear protective shoes till it gets completely healed. Or else the excess pressure from the external environment could further worsen the existing cracks.

You can apply a generous amount of medicated ointment available at the stores if you find it really difficult to manage.

Just like there are face masks, there are so many natural masks which can be applied on the feet such as the ones with banana, honey, aloe vera etc.

Most of them are self-limiting once a little care is given. But in case of severe pain especially if it starts bleeding it is better to consult a dermatologist and seek professional help.
