# Rule 1
Do not skip your appointments with a dentist. Consult your dentist every 6 months as they can help you with regular cleanups and assess the overall health of the teeth and gums. Did you know that the early signs of many chronic disorders such as HIV and cancers show up as non-healing ulcers, red spots or discolourations in the oral cavity? This might not be visible to one’s own eyes and hence an expert would suggest preventive measures to tackle such problems at the earliest.
# Rule 2
Instead of just buying any toothpaste available at the grocery store, pick the one that suits your individual needs. If you have sensitive teeth try an anti-sensitivity toothpaste as this could ease out the pain and burning sensation. On the other hand, if you experience bad breath check out a flavoured toothpaste especially the ones with a mint taste. This could give you a refreshing fruity smell every time you brush.
# Rule 3
Brush your teeth in slow circular motion. The harder you brush the quicker your enamel gets eroded exposing your tooth to acids and bacteria resulting in tooth decay.
# Rule 4
Use a toothbrush with soft bristles. They can effectively remove all the leftover food particles with an added advantage of being very gentle on your enamel.
# Rule 5
Next comes flossing, an important step which is often neglected. Make it a habit to floss your teeth 2 times a day. This pulls out the tiny food particles stuck in between the teeth which in turn reduces bacterial attack that could eventually lead to a buildup of plaque and bad breath.
# Rule 6
Using a mouth wash 2 times a day as they flush off all the leftovers and harmful bacterias which get accumulated in the mouth.
# Rule 7
Remember, anything in excess can have a negative impact. Most of the products used in cleansing the oral cavity contain an important constituent known as fluorine. Hence, exposure in excess could result in fluorosis. Well, don’t mistake fluorine to be your enemy, No !! Dentists insist that the amount of the products used is of at most importance. For example, to brush your teeth a pea-sized amount of toothpaste is more than enough.
# Rule 8
Wash your mouth thoroughly after having food whether it is a whole meal or a light snack. This is highly essential especially after having coffee or citrus fruits such as lemon, oranges etc.
# Rule 9
Use a tongue cleaner to remove the leftover food particles in your mouth.
# Rule 10
Reduce the intake of sugary or caffeinated beverages as they tend to cause tooth decay.
